Holiday Highlight: Concept

Want to spend some face-to-face time with family and friends over the holidays, but not sure how to make it happen? Fear not! We have a series of game recommendations for you that are great for gamers, non-gamers, adults, children and any kind of mix! Today’s highlight: Concept from Repos Production!

Join Emma as she give you a brief overview of Concept.

In Concept, players try to get their team to guess a word of phrase using a series of descriptive pictures printed on the board. Think of charades, but with less moving around. Players take turn placing their tokens on different symbols to communicate the concept to their team. For example, consider the following hints:

  • main concept: animal
    • description: small, yellow, black, flying
  • sub concept: food
    • description: liquid, yellow

Hopefully your team would be able to use these hint to arrive at the word “bee.” If not, the opposing team has an opportunity to steal your points!

Here’s why we think Concept is a great game for the holidays:

  1. It’s simple to learn and you can start playing quickly.
  2. It keeps everyone involved as you need to be paying attention on the opposing team’s turn for your chance to steal points.
  3. It’s great for more introverted or shy players as the clue-giver doesn’t need to as much the centre of attention as they do in charades, but more outgoing players can still be as dramatic and enthusiastic as they like.
  4. Each card also has words of varying difficulty levels, so it’s a good choice if your group as players of a variety of ages – or skill 😉

If you’re playing with much younger gamers, you can also try Concept Kids: Animals, which offers a simpler board for young players.

This is how hints for the word “bee” might appear in Concept Kids: Animals.

A game that’s easy to learn and requires some creative thinking, Concept is sure to add laughter to any holiday gathering!
