And why do those who do enter Darkwater so rarely return?

Dancers in the Sky: a D&D Game in One Session

The evening had been normal enough: a group of friends taking a break from their tiring travels across the lands, when the door to the nearly empty taphouse had banged open. An old man stood, silhouetted by the heavy snow falling to the cold ground behind him. He staggered into the room, hunched and hobbled, clutching a chest to his body. His uneven gait brought him to your table, where he slammed against the edge, upsetting the food and drink set upon it. The chest thudded to the table, as the old man collapsed, whispering his last words: "Return...the prism...call the dancers...beware the false...lights...." as he faded into stillness.

The chest contained a roughly drawn map, leading you northward, to the part of the world where the taiga ends and the tundra begins. But more importantly than that, it held a green tinged prism of clear, pristine glass. Handling it left no fingerprints and no rough treatment could even chip the surface. The next morning, you left the inn, headed north with the prism in hand and your curiosity piqued.
